Hong Kong arrests over JPEX crypto fraud increase to six people

Hong Kong officials have cracked down on purported crypto fraud , arresting six people , including two well-known social media influencers linked to the JPEX platform. The arrests come as a part of an investigation into the Hong Kong-based platform, which has reportedly operated without a valid license and has been at the center of complaints amounting to a staggering 1 billion Hong Kong dollars ($127.8 million). Lawyers representing the former FTX CEO say he's being served a “flesh diet” in prison even though he's vegan, and has been subsisting on bread, water and peanut butter. FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has seemingly been doing it tough behind bars, eating only bread with peanut butter to accommodate his vegan diet, while exhausting his supply of prescription medication. In the same hearing where Bankman-Fried pleaded not guilty to seven fraud-related charges, Bankman-Fried’s lawyers pleaded for the former FTX CEO to receive better treatment inside Brooklyn’s notorious Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC), according to an Aug. 22 transcript shared by the Inner City Press. Cryptocurrency users are once again reminded about the importance of using only authentic hardware wallets. Amid the rising popularity of hardware cryptocurrency wallets, the Russian cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has reminded users about the importance of using authentic crypto devices. Kaspersky’s cyber incident expert Stanislav Golovanov on May 10 reported on an issue with fake hardware wallets impersonating major wallet firm Trezor. According to the blog post, the fake wallet allowed fraudsters to steal Bitcoin (BTC) via a replaced microcontroller, which enabled attackers to take over control of the user's private keys. The victim reportedly purchased a tampered hardware wallet that posed as Trezor’s advanced crypto wallet Trezor Model T.
